SWS Pentatonic Lyre Workshop
Dear SWS parents,
Winter greetings! Since we had to postpone our fall Lyre making Workshop, we are writing now again about this wonderful opportunity for parents in our community. In Waldorf education, the arts are very much a part of the everyday curriculum. The children are given many opportunities for creative expression. They are able to paint their red colored days, act out different personas in plays, and sing their emotions through songs. Unless we were lucky enough to have a Waldorf education ourselves, we parents usually experience these creative processes through our children. In the curriculum, the children are often making the things that later will be eaten, played with, or used in class. We are offering SWS parents the opportunity to put together an instrument, which they could later play for and with their children.
The pentatonic kinder lyre is much used in the Waldorf classroom especially in Early Childhood and Early Grades. It is a very satisfying instrument to play, quite user-friendly, and lovely to hear.
You will be guided step-by-step through the process of assembling, tuning and playing your kinder lyre.
Because the sealers and finishes take time to dry and set, the workshop will take place in three parts:
Saturdays March 17th, 31st AND April 14th
from 11 AM to 1PM.
(We need to skip the Saturdays in between due to our auction and Easter)
The Workshop includes all materials necessary for making a pentatonic lyre: cherry wood frame, strings—and the hardware to keep them in place—tuning wrench, sandpaper, wood sealer and finish, plus a printed Songbook of Pentatonic songs. Places are limited. This workshop is being offered at $85 (for early registration), and $95 (at the door).
If interested, please fill out the registration form below, and turn in with your registration fee to Kirsten Updike at the receptionist desk. Early registration deadline is Friday March 2nd.
For more information, or is there is an issue with the dates (e.g. we might add another Saturday if you can't make one of the dates), please contact Nina Radanovic at (717) 561-7895 or Tabea Steinbeisser-Fitz at (717) 426-3301.
