Recently, our 7th graders unveiled their Rube Goldberg projects—delightfully complex machines designed to accomplish simple tasks. From the first sketches to the final chain reactions, students poured creativity, persistence, and problem-solving into their work, resulting in some truly inventive creations.

Projects like these bring STEAM learning vividly to life. By giving students hands-on opportunities to tinker, experiment, and follow their curiosity, we nurture engaged, confident, and enthusiastic learners. We couldn’t be prouder of our students or more grateful to the educators who continue to enrich our curriculum with dynamic, inspiring lessons.

The Spiral of Light holds a reverent place in the heart of Waldorf education. 🕯️🌲

As we move towards the Winter Solstice and the daylight hours continue to shorten, we may find that our pace has naturally slowed from the busy days of Summer and the dark and cold of December calls us towards a quiet inwardness. ✨❄️ This is a time to reflect upon the year that has passed and kindle the seeds of the future that is to come.

In this season of darkness, cultures all over the world celebrate light, in anticipation of its return, from the Jewish celebration of Hanukkah to the Hindu festival of Diwali.

The Spiral of Light is an outward experience of this inward journey and a celebration of the quiet confidence we must cultivate to carry our inner light through darkness to share with others. In the quiet of darkness, we gather around a spiral of greens and the light of a single candle. 🕯️🍎We listen to a few quiet voices in song as each child is offered an apple with an unlit candle. Each child makes their way to the center of a spiral to share in the light, carry it along to illuminate their path, and place it along the spiral to brighten the path for those who follow.

This morning, our Mixed-Age Kindergarteners went about their morning with something missing: one slipper!

That’s because our students left a slipper out by the window for dear St. Nicholas to fill with treats!✨ As they made their way into their classroom this morning and tucked into their singular slipper, a sense of magic and anticipation filled the air as excited little ones searched around for their matching pair. 🍊🌲

Festivals like St. Nicholas Day play an important role in the Waldorf tradition, helping children mark the turning of the seasons while nurturing their inner life. St. Nicholas Day, in particular, highlights the goodness within each child and affirms the inherent worth of every human being. It reinforces the compassion, kindness, and moral grounding that we strive to cultivate throughout our school community.

These magical moments throughout the year go well beyond wonder and whimsy. In Waldorf education, every lesson, every festival, and every day is layered with intention. It’s one of the many reasons why we love Waldorf. 💫

Each year, parents, grandparents, teachers, faculty, Board members, Parent Guild, and friends of our dear school step up to support our Winter Faire. From Decorating Day to cleanup, and every moment in between, our incredible crew of volunteers quite literally make magic happen. We could not be more grateful! ✨
