Description
The SWS String Orchestra Camp offers young musicians an inspiring week of music-making, collaboration, and creative exploration. Designed for students entering Grades 6–8, this camp strengthens technical skills while encouraging improvisation, listening, and ensemble awareness. Through sectionals, full orchestra rehearsals, and community-building activities, students grow as musicians and collaborators in a joyful, supportive environment. The week concludes with a celebratory concert showcasing the students’ work and progress.
Camp Agenda:
8:30-9:00 Arrival, Unpack, Tune
9:00-9:20 Ice Breaker Activity
9:30-10:00 Warm-up/Sound Bath
10:00-10:30 Improvisation
Students will explore the art of improvisation to develop musical creativity.
10:35-11:30 Sectionals: Basses, Violins/Violas, Cellos
Instrument-specific breakout sessions to refine techniques and practice ensemble pieces.
11:30-11:55 Lunch
Students bring their own packed lunches to enjoy together in a relaxed, social setting.
12:00–12:25 PM General Music/Social Activity
Fun, interactive music-related games and activities foster community and connection.
12:30–1:50 PM Ensemble Practice
Full orchestra rehearsals focus on ensemble performance and prepare for the final concert.
1:55-2:55 Social Time
Game stations with the teachers to offer the students time to relax and socialize
3:00-3:30 Pack up & Dismissal
Final Concert:
The camp will conclude with a performance on Friday, showcasing the students’ progress and the pieces they’ve worked on throughout the week.
