At Susquehanna Waldorf School, our Mixed-age Kinde At Susquehanna Waldorf School, our Mixed-age Kindergartners celebrate the end of the school year in a very special, and very Waldorf, way: Boat Day! ⛵️

Students prepare for weeks in advance, carefully sanding their boats by hand, thoughtfully nailing the components to their wooden bases, twiddle-twisting their own rope, and finally decorating their boats with paint.

It’s a beautiful ending to a year of big learning, big growth, and big fun. The children joyously wade through a gentle creek, boats in tow, stopping to say hello to a frog or pocket a special rock. They beam with pride over their little wooden creations while families gather and connect, marveling that it is already June.

Thank you to everyone who helped make Boat Day such a special celebration. Happy Summer! ☀️

The 8th grade project is a cherished Waldorf tradi The 8th grade project is a cherished Waldorf tradition — a culminating experience that invites graduating students to fully immerse themselves in a topic of their own choosing. 🎨📚🔎

Through this sustained, independent work, students develop skills that will serve them well in high school and beyond:
⭐️Managing a long-term project with timelines and goals.
⭐️Collaborating with a mentor.
⭐️Practicing research and essay writing.
⭐️Deepening an existing interest or discovering an entirely new one.
⭐️Building the confidence to speak publicly about what they’ve learned.

Each completed project includes a detailed proposal, a physical product, performance, demonstration, or portfolio that reflects genuine learning, a project journal capturing the process and reflections along the way, a research and reflection essay, a display board documenting the journey, and a five-minute oral presentation to the community.

We are incredibly proud of our recently-graduated 8th graders!⭐️ Great work!👏

Circle time in Waldorf Early Childhood education m Circle time in Waldorf Early Childhood education moves with the season. Songs, verses, stories, and movement games change as do the leaves on the great trees that shelter our playground. 🍃

This rhythmic daily gathering helps children anchor in the present season, in addition to being developmentally appropriate opportunities to learn social skills, motor control, and early literacy.  🌱🐛 Students light up when a new circle sequence is presented, and grow in confidence as they grow into the songs and movement games.

This spring, our young learners sang about a farmer planting little brown seeds, pretended to plow the fields, and got to know a slow, silly garden snail. 🐌🌼 They even sang songs to their growing garden!

Circle time is a beautiful moment of connection, learning, and anchoring that can be easily integrated into the home routine over summer break. ☀️ What are your favorite summer circle songs? Tell us below!👇

The garden is blooming in the Early Childhood play The garden is blooming in the Early Childhood playground thanks to the careful tending of our youngest students.🥕🍓

Our Stepping Stones students spent their spring nurturing the newest garden beds at SWS and now they are seeing the fruits of their labor! Strawberries are beginning to ripes, peas are climbing their trellises, and there are herbs a’plenty! 🌱

The students will have the opportunity to harvest their garden come fall and enjoy their garden treats during snack time. We can’t wait to see the bounty!🫛🫑🥔
